Asylum seekers made to wear coloured wristbands in Cardiff

http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2016/jan/24/asylum-seekers-made-to-wear-coloured-wristbands-cardiff This article is about the red colourbands that refugees are now having to wear in Cardiff, these bands have been introduced ever since there were complaints about people targeting the homes they were accommodated after realizing they were all coloured red, these bands are also the only way the Refugees are able to get free meals, if they take the bands off they will lose that privilege, the article mentions quotes from people who are wearing the wristbands, and claim that some people who see the bands, will shout insensitive remarks at them. The refugees cannot put the wristbands back on once they have taken them off. Another quote from a refugee says how they do not negotiate the wristbands, and complaints are ignored. There is also a quote from a human rights activists, saying this is "Blatant discrimination" The article is relative to the newspaper because the guardian is a UK newspaper, so Cardiff is relevant, this story also makes sense to be reported by a left wing newspaper like the guardian because their beliefs align with concerning how people are being treated and are they being treated correctly. I was drawn to this article by the fact that refugees are a very relevant topic recently, and I wanted to know more about how they were being treated, the title alone was already interesting and I wanted to understand why Refugees would have to wear bands in particular. In my opinion though I feel that the intent of these bands is simply to identify who and who aren't refugees so they can distribute food to only refugees, I understand why people would see a problem with this as it does suggest a form of separation of residents and refugees, and might give a message of how they are 'different' but in my opinion, the bands are fine as long as they don't get any worse from this.

  1. I find your story interesting, however you could make use of visual evidence to back your story and also to try including the source of the story. Also reviewing this story from different perspective such as other news outlets. Well done
