The media and news outlets may be so obsessed with making this into a big deal may be to sell papers and make money because any 'crisis' or 'craze' would attract people. This incident may also be connected to dominant ideology as part of that ideology are middle aged people, the clown incident could be connected to young adults causing terror to the older people, as there is a stereotype on younger people from older people being delinquents and rebelious.

In my opinion I think that this scandal is hardly surprising, and I honestly expected Trump to be someone that'd say these things and respond in the way it is. But these are also words from over six years ago and they shouldn't be used to reflect Trump now, especially when there's more than enough stuff that he's said in the present day that you can hold against him.
